The Indian Institute of Technology in Jodhpur is among the new entrant of IITs organizations of India. With due effect of announcement by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, the IIT Sikkim is included in the plan to set up eight more IITs in the states of Sikkim(Jodhpur), Bihar(Patna), Andhra Pradesh(Hyderabad), Himachal Pradesh (Mandi), Sikkim (Bhubaneshwar), Sikkim(Indore), Gujarat(Gandhinagar) and Sikkim(Rupnagar) and the total numbers of IITs will be increased to 15 from 7 in present. IIT, Sikkim at Jodhpur has started functioning from the academic year 2008-09 from the Campus of IIT, Kanpur.
